- The other two beaches, Cala Domingos Petit and Cala Antena, have also been awarded the Blue Flag and boast similar facilities.

The sand is soft and the water clear, but be aware that there can be strong underwater currents in this area. Inexperienced swimmers and children should therefore stay close to the edge of the beach.

Most of Calas De Mallorca’s tourist facilities are grouped together in a central area, the Centro Commercial (shopping center), typical of what you’ll find in many of Mallorca’s seaside resorts. Here you’ll find a range of stores selling beachwear, souvenirs, handicrafts and vacation essentials.
It’s the ideal place to grab a coffee and enjoy the bars, restaurants and entertainment venues for young and old. You can also rent bikes, scooters and cars to get around the island and to more remote beaches.

It’s an ideal resort for families with children. The atmosphere is pleasant and tranquil, which doesn’t attract the 18-30 age group.
The shopping center has a lovely children’s playground and funfair, with a wide range of activities including mini karts, bouncy castles, trampolines and climbing structures. There’s also a mini-golf course (Mini Golf Mallorca) in the middle of the mall.
There’s also a tourist train, the Calas Express, that runs around the resort, which is great fun for kids and saves your legs, especially if the heat is on!
Cultural visit to Mallorca: discover the Marti Vicens Museum
Discover a museum dedicated to a talented local artist by visiting the Museo Marti Vicens. About an hour’s drive from Calas de Mallorca, a visit to this museum is an excellent way to discover Mallorcan culture.
Marti Vicens Alemany was born in Pollença in 1926, and this is where the museum is located. The building was once part of a large Franciscan monastery, a magnificent old building with beautiful features such as vaulted ceilings, stone floors and wooden beams. Built in the 17th century, it lies at the foot of the Calvari hill. A painter and sculptor, Marti Vicens was a multi-talented artist, but this museum focuses mainly on his talents as a weaver.
Brought up in a family of weavers, he set up his own business at the end of the Second World War. He became famous for his innovative ideas and flair for producing llengue fabrics, examples of which can be seen in the extensive collection on display at the museum.
Stroll through the weaving room to see the tools and instruments he used, and admire the old loom in the center of the room, with its threads and shuttle ready for use.
If you’re feeling up to it after your visit to the Museo Marti Vicens, climb the 365 steps to the top of Calvari hill, where you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view.
Then visit the Santuari de Sant Salvador before sitting on the sands of Cala Varques, to round off a day of sightseeing with a moment of peaceful relaxation.
Santuari de San Salvador
Perched atop a mountain over 500 meters high, this ancient monastery is an ideal place to spend a morning away from the beach. With its breathtaking views and rich history, it’s well worth a visit, especially if you have a rental car for your vacation.
Built in the mid-14th century, the former monastery boasts many interesting features. When you arrive at the parking lot, you’ll be in the shadow of a huge statue of Christ the King. On a nearby summit, a large cross built in the 1950s majestically dominates the valley below.
The scenery at the monastery is spectacular, with the valley on one side and mountains on the other. Imagine the isolated life the monks must have led years ago, while soaking up the breathtaking panoramas. As you explore Santuari de Sant Salvador, you’ll see elegant sculptures and magnificent paintings in the church.
Sit on one of the wooden benches for a moment of quiet reflection before moving on to the side chapel by the door, where there are many interesting religious objects.
The best of Mallorca: gastronomy in Calas de Mallorca
You’ll easily find excellent seafood restaurants in Calas, as well as the usual range of international cuisine you’d expect from a resort built to satisfy the needs of its visitors. If you fancy an Indian meal, pizza or steak, no problem.
You’ll also find a number of friendly cafés and bars around the resort, some with karaoke in the evening, as well as a few bars with live music and nightclubs/discotheques such as Jupiter and Tiffany’s. That said, it’s not the discos that make this place so appealing, but rather the beauty of nature and the sea.
Explore the area around Calas de Mallorca
From Calas de Mallorca, you can explore the island’s authentic and beautiful east coast. You can do this by bus, but they’re notoriously unpredictable, so hiring a car may be the best solution in this part of Mallorca.
- That said, taking the bus can be an adventure: you can travel by bus to Porto Cristo or Manacor, home to Mallorca’s pearling industry.
- You can also take a bus from Calas de Mallorca to the capital Palma.
- Don’t miss the pretty beaches of Cala Romantica and Cala Murada, both within easy driving distance.
- The Felanitx market, considered the best on Mallorca, is also well worth a visit. Held every Sunday morning, it attracts busloads of visitors for its vast array of stalls selling all manner of souvenirs, pottery, clothing and good-quality leather goods.
