One arm less, but a will of the titan.
In January 2011, Serge Occhipinti’s life was turned upside down. A serious motorcycle accident left him severely injured, with a chilling prognosis: he would probably never walk again. Worse still, he loses the use of his left arm, which has been amputated. For most, it’s the end. For Serge, it’s the start of another battle.
In love with the ocean and a passion for surfing, Serge decided to defy the elements… and fate. After months of intense re-education, surgery and pain, he bravely overcame his injuries and began to walk again. Then he ran. He pedaled. And above all, he got back on his board.
Today, equipped with a prosthetic arm adapted to kitesurfing, Serge is embarking on a spectacular challenge: to link Martinique to Saint-Martin solely by kitesurf, over 400 kilometers in the open sea, divided into 7 stages of 4 to 5 hours each, depending on weather conditions.
But beyond the sporting performance, it’s a message of hope that he wants to get across. His goal? To create an association in Martinique to enable people with disabilities to discover board sports: kitesurfing, surfing, windsurfing… Because freedom is not measured in limbs, but in mind.
Today, Serge is looking for sponsors to support him in this extraordinary human and sporting adventure. You can be part of this story.
