When to surf in Guadeloupe (and when to kite) <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Premium surfing period: November \u2192 April.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

This is the season of North\/North-East swells generated by the Atlantic. Waves are more powerful and regular, often clean in the morning before the trade winds (NE winds) kick in. <\/p>\n\n

Summer season (May \u2192 August).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The swell is more irregular, but some very nice windows are appearing, especially on the more easterly exposed spots. In addition, the wind<\/strong> is more established: excellent for kitesurfing<\/strong> (and wing). <\/p>\n\n

Cyclones & interseasons (September \u2192 October).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

We’re keeping an eye on the weather: exceptional swells may come in, but we’re remaining cautious.<\/p>\n\n

Temperature & combi.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

26-29\u00b0C all year round. No wetsuit necessary; long-sleeved lycra<\/strong> and reef-safe sunscreen<\/strong> are your best allies. Slippers<\/strong> are highly recommended on the reefs. <\/p>\n\n

Tide tip: many reefs operate mid-tide \u2192 high tide<\/strong>. Check the timetable the day before, it changes the session. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

The best surf spots (by level)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Le Moule – Damencourt<\/strong> (Grande-Terre, East)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Level: intermediate to expert.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

This is THE<\/strong> legendary spot in Guadeloupe<\/a>, the scene of international competitions. Dominant straight line<\/strong> (with very hollow sections) on reef<\/strong>: fast, powerful, technical. Works with E\/NE swell and little wind, or in the morning glassy. Entry<\/strong> through the channel, coral bottom<\/strong> (beware of sea urchins). Shortboarding<\/strong> is king; a step-up<\/strong> isn’t too bad when the going gets rough. <\/p>\n\n

Le Moule – Anse Salabouelle<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Level: multi-level depending on conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Less well known than Damencourt, wilder, accessed by piste. Rights and lefts on reef, nice long sections when the period climbs. In sustained swells, it’s serious business: keep your helmet and booties on if you need them. <\/p>\n\n

Anse-Bertrand – Anse de la Chapelle<\/strong> (North Grande-Terre)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Level: confirmed\/expert.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

A technical reef break<\/strong> with right and left<\/strong>. The wave is fast, hollow<\/strong>, with potential tubes<\/strong>. Best conditions: swell E\u2192NE 0.8-1.5 m, little wind or SE\/S. Deep bottom<\/strong> for a Caribbean reef, but still sharp. Nervous shortboard<\/strong> recommended. <\/p>\n\n

Saint-Fran\u00e7ois – Spot du Port<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Level: beginner to intermediate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Reef-friendly, with water under the fins and a long, docile straight line<\/strong>. Perfect for schools<\/strong>, longboards<\/strong> and softboards<\/strong>. When the swell exceeds 70-80 cm, a shortboard is also fun. Little crowded, zen atmosphere. Ideal for improving<\/strong> section reading and cut-backs<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

Saint-Fran\u00e7ois – Roba (between Raisins-Clairs and Pointe Gros B\u0153uf)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Level: confirmed\/expert.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Shallow reef, punchy take-off, fast left<\/strong> with tubular sections; shorter but explosive right. S swell is not the story; we’re talking powerfuleasterly<\/strong> (0.8\u21922 m) with little wind. Respect the local line-up<\/strong>: you can’t row 6 on the same peak. <\/p>\n\n

Sainte-Anne – Le Helleux (Anse Gros Sable)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Level: all levels (with discretion).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The island’s busiest<\/strong> spot. Left\/right with several sections: hollow start<\/strong>, then softer zone, then re-acceleration. Perfect for supervised beginners<\/strong>, intermediates<\/strong> who want to multiply waves, and longboards\/fish<\/strong>. Surf early to avoid the surf school hour. <\/p>\n\n

Le Gosier – Petit-Havre<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Level: confirmed\/expert.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Lovely left<\/strong>, wrapping around the reef. Very little water<\/strong> at the end of the wave, presence of fire coral<\/strong>: watch out for falls. Atmosphere sometimes “tight” at the peak: smiles, turns, and it goes well. All types of boards according to size, but shortboard<\/strong> recommended >1 m. <\/p>\n\n

Port-Louis – Souffleur \/ Northwest fringe<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Level: beginner\/intermediate<\/strong> (depending on benches and days).<\/p>\n\n

Superb setting, waves more permissive<\/strong> when small. With big swells and long periods, the reef wakes up and requires more technique. <\/p>\n\n

On the Basse-Terre side (west), exposure is less pronounced: a few winter windows<\/strong> on the N\/NW sometimes enter the bays, but the regularity remains on Grande-Terre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
