Seven o’clock in the morning in the hills above Cannes. A calm sea, a cypress-lined garden, the laughter of a child diving into a secure swimming pool. For HNW families booking in Cannes, this quality of silence and space is more important than proximity to the Croisette.
Choosing a family vacation in Cannes isn’t just about renting a villa with a pool. It’s about orchestrating a holiday where every age finds its place, where logistics disappear to let what matters emerge: time spent together.
The criteria that an experienced parent looks at first are not those listed on the platforms.
The villa that changes everything: criteria for a family holiday in Cannes

Before view or decoration, two elements guide a parent’s choice: pool safety and circulation between spaces. French standard NF P90-307 requires an approved alarm or barrier – a detail that few descriptions detail, and which we verify during a physical visit.
A villa designed with families in mind has a second living room, ideal for isolating a table activity or a nap while dinner continues upstairs. Children’s bedrooms must be adjoining or served by the same corridor: essential for three or more children.
Baby equipment is often lacking. Umbrella beds, high chairs, baby baths, audio monitors: we systematically ask owners of Super Cannes and California to provide a full range of equipment. Villas that accept a Stokke bed or a Snuzpod for provisioning can be counted on one hand.
The room dedicated to staff – nanny, housekeeper – changes the comfort of a two-week stay. A staff bedroom with private shower room, independent access and dining area in the kitchen avoids invisible friction.
Of the villas we present in Cannes, six meet all these criteria for children under eight. This selection is made by eye, not via a web filter.
Choosing the right neighborhood for children’s ages
Not all areas of Cannes are equal for a family vacation. Super Cannes offers altitude, coolness in summer and fenced-in properties on large flat plots – suitable for small children playing in the garden without constant supervision. The descent to the Croisette takes ten minutes by car.
La Californie combines prestige and proximity. Belle Époque villas stand side by side with contemporary ones, with tree-lined gardens. This is the area recommended for families with teenagers, who can reach the Croisette on foot or by shuttle bus in fifteen minutes.
La Croix des Gardes, further west, has the advantage of an 80-hectare public park and widely-spaced historic properties. The slope is steep – to be avoided with a stroller. Our advice: this area is ideal for longer stays, from two weeks upwards, where you can really settle in.
Le Cannet and the northern heights are ideal for families looking for absolute peace and quiet, contact with an authentic Provencal village and a more contained budget, without sacrificing proximity to the beach.
Avoid the immediate fringe of the Croisette with young children: pedestrian density, horns, late-night terraces. The ratio of tranquility to services shifts from Rue d’Antibes onwards.
Nanny, housekeeper, chef: structuring staff for a family holiday
Home staff transform a stay. For a family with two young children, the combination of an English-speaking nanny and a daytime housekeeper is the norm. For stays of more than a week, a private chef takes over dinners.
Three profiles dominate at Cannes. Norland qualified nannies – the benchmark British training – are rare and can be booked several months in advance, especially between July and August. An experienced French nanny (CAP petite enfance, former bilingual crèche) covers most needs. For an infant, an English-speaking maternity nurse remains the most reassuring solution.
Vetting is just as important as diplomas. We work with two local agencies that require a clean criminal record (B3), three verifiable references and a real-life test. UHNW families often ask for an NDA: our service providers sign one by default.
Coordination is the real issue. On a ten-day stay, we systematically organize a 30-minute arrival briefing: allergies, rhythms, screens, languages spoken, emergency management. This rigorous approach avoids the misunderstandings that can plague the end of a stay.
Count on 48 to 72 hours to source a certified English-speaking nanny in the off-season. In July-August, plan for at least six weeks.
Kids-friendly activities: what one Cannes concierge recommends
There’s more to Cannes than the Croisette. For a family program, alternate between beaches, sea excursions and land discoveries around the bay.
The key excursion remains the Îles de Lérins. A private boat from the Vieux Port leaves at 10:30 a.m., docks at Sainte-Marguerite, has lunch at L’Escale and returns mid-afternoon. Fort Royal keeps the kids busy for an hour, and the northern creeks are ideal for swimming. Avoid the overcrowded public ferry service in July and August.
As for the beaches, Plage du Midi offers fine sand and a progressive bottom, ideal for young children. The private beaches of La Croisette are child-friendly, but must be booked in advance. For peace and quiet, cross over to La Bocca, where the shallow waters last for fifty meters.
Water sports are organized from Mandelieu: sailing school for children aged 6 and over, paddleboard for adults and children, surfing initiation in September when the swell returns. The Cannes Yacht Club offers supervised courses.
For a day on land, the hinterland changes the pace. Mougins is home to a pottery workshop for children, and Grasse to a family olfactory school. A 25-minute drive from Super Cannes.
Security, discretion and logistics: what UHNW families demand
Discretion takes precedence over visible luxury. For a well-known family, we establish a protocol in advance: reservation pseudonym, NDA for staff, briefing by the janitor on authorized visitors and anti-paparazzi protocol if a family member is exposed to the media.
The physical security of a Cannes villa can be measured in three elements: motorized gates with video intercom, discreet peripheral cameras, 24/7 security guards available on request. The best properties have a panic button connected to a local security company.
Logistics begin at Nice airport. Depending on traffic, it’s a 35-50 minute drive to Super Cannes. We orchestrate transfers in Mercedes V-Class cars equipped with iso-fix child seats – a detail that avoids first-day discomfort. For jet arrivals, Cannes-Mandelieu airport puts the villa just ten minutes away.
On site, two vehicles are often required: one for the parents, one for the nanny and children. We provide a sedan with a dedicated driver for the duration of the stay, with flexible hours and signed confidentiality.
The arrival of a yacht changes the situation. The Cannes harbor welcomes yachts up to 60 meters in length; beyond that, the Antibes IYCA marina remains the benchmark for superyacht stopovers.
Catering and private chefs: feeding a family without constraints

In-villa catering takes up half of the stay. Three formats coexist. The private chef in residence takes care of breakfasts, lunches and dinners – a solution suited to stays of more than five days and to large families. Expect an allergy and diet briefing before arrival.
The one-off signature dinner, held once or twice a week, features a Michelin-starred chef for one evening. Families appreciate this format for birthdays or arrival dinners. In Cannes, several Michelin-starred chefs make private appearances.
When it comes to eating out, there are a number of restaurants that are really child-friendly. Astoux et Brun in the Vieux Port remains a benchmark for casual seafood dining. La Petite Maison de Nicole on Rue d’Antibes offers Niçoise cuisine for all generations.
The Forville market, open every morning except Monday, becomes a family activity in its own right. We organize a visit with a chef, who selects the produce for lunch with the children – an unforgettable moment, free of charge, that makes a lasting impression.
Special diets (gluten-free, vegetarian, kosher, halal) must be briefed D-7. A qualified private chef will cater for them at no extra cost, and a dedicated shopping service will take over on request.
Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to visit Cannes with your family?
May-June and September offer the best compromise: mild temperatures (22-26°C), sea temperatures as early as June at 21°C, low crowds. July and August remain the peaks – heat, crowds, double prices. For young children, June and early September offer calm and easy access to activities. Avoid the last two weeks of May for the Festival, which mobilizes transfers and disrupts local life. For Easter and All Saints’ Day, villas can be booked up to six months in advance – so plan ahead.
How many bedrooms are available for a family with children in Cannes?
One room per child aged 8 and over. For younger children, two can share a family room with twin beds. Always add a room dedicated to the nanny, with private bathroom. A family of five therefore requires a minimum of four bedrooms; six people plus staff justify five to six bedrooms. The villas we offer in Cannes start at four bedrooms and go up to ten on the larger Super Cannes properties.
Is it easy to find an English-speaking nanny in Cannes?
Yes, with anticipation. Norland-qualified nannies and English-speaking maternity nurses are available, but their schedules fill up six months before peak season. In July and August, it’s still difficult to meet demand beyond D-15. Out of season, 48 to 72 hours are sufficient. We work with two Cannes-based agencies that provide vetting (B3 record, references checked, NDA signed) and pre-testing. Bilingual French profiles cover the majority of our needs on more flexible terms.
Which public beaches in Cannes are suitable for young children?
Plage du Midi, on the west side, remains the gentlest: fine sand, gradual bottom, lifeguard surveillance in season. Plage Bijou, near the Palais des Festivals, works well outside July and August. For total peace and quiet, cross over to La Bocca, where the shallow waters stretch for fifty meters. All the Croisette’s private beaches are child-friendly; some have dedicated areas with supervised activities. Always book 24 hours in advance.
Do I need a car for a family holiday in Cannes?
Yes, ideally two. A chauffeur-driven sedan for parents and restaurant outings; a Mercedes V-Class family car with iso-fix seats for the nanny and kids. Cannes is crowded in summer, and Croisette parking becomes impractical. From Super Cannes or California, distances justify an organized transfer. We systematically coordinate the vehicles with the villa stay, including driver briefing.
